On March 15, a motion was adopted to once again urge the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) to find solutions to the problem in the short term. That is why an official letter was sent to the cabinet.

The letter states that attention has already been drawn several times to the growing dental shortage in the province. It is an urgent call to do something about that shortage in the short term.

The province is asking for an early consultation about the dental training in Rotterdam. This would be a solution, because the existing training courses are located in the north and center of the country. If a training course is established in Rotterdam, setting up training practices in Zeeland can also help to combat the dentist shortage in the province.

“After several calls from Zeeland, it is really time for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and OCW to work on a training place in the south-west of the Netherlands,” says provincial administrator Harry van der Maas. “That could help Zeeland to tackle the major dental shortage. Time is running out and action must be taken. Zeelanders want good dental practices in the area!”

The province insists on entering into discussions with the Erasmus MC and the responsible ministers in the short term.
