DRAGON – The ride home ended in a ditch for a drunk driver on Saturday evening. The man was driving on the Suderskarren near Drachten when his vehicle ended up on the side of the road on the right side. He barely managed to stay out of a ditch, but this steering correction landed him in the ditch on the other side of the road.
Found by a passer-by
A motorist driving by around 11:20 p.m. saw the car in the ditch and went to take a look. The emergency services were alerted. Officers who were first on the scene provided assistance and kept the victim conscious. Two ambulances arrived on the scene to provide first aid to this driver.
Arrested
After the man was removed from the vehicle by the emergency services, he was examined in the ambulance. It also became clear that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver of the car was subsequently arrested.
Blood test
Ultimately, the man was transferred to the UMCG in Groningen. Blood will also be taken there to see exactly how much alcohol the man had in his blood. His car was removed from the ditch by a tow truck who arrived on the scene.
