Column Dohmen rambles on

It is finished. The decor of The Passion was demolished in an emergency. Het Rond is back to normal. Here and there there is still reflection and grumbling. Did Angela sing clean or out of tune, what was that traitor actually doing among the horses?

Easter is over. One question remains: did it yield anything? Jesus says – loosely translated – that you cannot love money and God. The people who got off the shuttle bus from Driebergen-Zeist station to the village on Thursday understood this well. Once they arrived, they only had one thing in mind: their cell phone. It showed them the way. Of course they didn’t go shopping first. They came for The Passion, not for Hema.

The whole of Zeist was completely missed by these visitors. Their eyes were glued to the screen of their phone. They walked straight past the direction signs, mumbling ‘Is this the right route, how far is it, we’re probably going the wrong way?’ It’s a miracle they didn’t fall on their faces.

SATISFYING

Fortunately, it all went well and people enjoyed it. Besides, we have enough money! The municipality has purchased shares in Stedin for 3 million. The network operator had asked for our financial help. Some days we generate so much electricity that the cables can no longer handle it. And without reliable electricity supplies we have no future. The grid must be bigger, smarter and more reliable. That requires (your) money.

The millions are flying around your ears anyway. Take Heuvelrug Mountain Bike Club. He donated one million euros to Staatsbosbeheer! Nature is not doing so well. Nature does not owe this to itself, but to human actions, such as industry, agriculture, transport and recreation. Human action is necessary to stay alive, but it destroys more than you would like.

They have taken that to heart at the mountain bike club. They are aware of the fact that their rather numerous presence does not go unnoticed among the slowworm population and other forest inhabitants. The question of whether that is a bad thing has not been answered unanimously to date. Annoyance about the fact that a walk in the woods on Sunday morning is becoming increasingly similar to a visit to a furniture boulevard on Easter Monday is not the same as demonstrable loss of fauna and flora. Besides, a million can make up for a lot. We learned this earlier during the collection in church. The generous donation was gratefully accepted.

I didn’t wash my hands in innocence. I drive a car, burn wood in my stove and my bicycle is electric. At Easter I again ate more eggs than necessary to stay alive. The Judas tokens have started to bloom in my garden.
