European nature restoration law no solution, says NSC MP about Dutch problems

The law received a lot of criticism and agricultural organizations such as LTO in particular are still very concerned about the consequences. “The law carries an unimaginable number of risks,” warns LTO chairman Ger Koopmans. “We have legalized it all in such a crazy way in the Netherlands. This law means that it will become one big swamp.”

Hertzberger inserts WNL Hague Lobby admits that her party, despite the submitted motion to vote against, will not run away from the nature issue. The nature restoration ordinance has been controversial from the start, she says. “Minister Van der Wal (Christianne, Minister for Nature and Nitrogen, ed.) already made it clear in October 2022 that it is a difficult law to achieve for the Netherlands.”

According to Hertzberger, this is due to the legally binding objectives that are expected. “These are objectives that you must achieve in 2030, 2040 and 2050. What exactly it will look like is still unclear, and it will remain unclear. It only looks like a combination of result obligations and effort obligations.”
