Do you enjoy the flowery roadsides in your municipality? Show your appreciation and nominate your municipality or the person responsible for those beautiful roadsides for the title of Top Best Roadside Manager 2024. This prize is awarded by The Butterfly Foundation in collaboration with the Groenkeur Foundation.

Flower-filled roadsides are not only beautiful to look at, but also a habitat for butterflies and countless other plants and animals. The Butterfly Foundation therefore promotes flowery verges by encouraging clients (municipalities, provinces and water boards) and contractors (contractors, green companies) to adopt nature-friendly management. Roadsides, dikes and green areas also play an important role in combating biodiversity loss.

Fortunately, more and more municipalities, provinces and water boards have flower-filled roadsides. Some private roadside managers are also being florid. The Butterfly Foundation would like to highlight roadside managers who are successfully committed to ecological roadside management. That is why the BovensteBeste Roadside Manager is chosen every two years. In 2022, the title went to Jaap Mekel, who has developed his own concept: Mekelogical mowing management, which is based on imitating natural management.

Who will be Top Best Roadside Manager this year?
Nominate the organization, agency or person that you believe is doing the best for biodiversity on the roadsides by completing the questionnaire at www.vlinderstichting.nl/bermbeheer. Tip: take a photo of the most beautiful roadside and send it along! You can submit your candidate from April 15 to May 15, 2024.

An expert jury, consisting of Dick Oosthoek (Groenkeur Foundation), Jaap Mekel, Margriet Rouhof (Tennet) and Anthonie Stip (De Vlinderstichting), selects the five most appealing candidates. From June 1, they will have the opportunity to profile themselves on the Butterfly Foundation website and campaign. From 1 to 21 June you can vote for your favorite on the De Vlinderstichting website. Then we will know who the Top Best Roadside Manager 2024 is!
