The request from the market vendors in 2023 to organize the St. Jansteen Annual Market in early April instead of early March was very much appreciated by everyone, but certainly by the organizational board. That is why this year the traditional Annual Market will again take place on the first weekend of April. On Saturday, April 6, there will be a varied program with inspections, shows and market stalls in the village center of Sint Jansteen.

SINT JANSSTEEN – “We responded to the market vendors’ request with the shift last year and it turned out well. The weather was fine and we were also a bit further away from carnival, among other things, with the annual market. That is why we have decided to organize the annual market again this year in the first weekend of April,” says chairman Nico van Putte.

The chairman, together with Ilona Jense – van Haarst, mayor of Hulst, will perform the official opening in the village center of Sint Jansteen. Afterwards, everyone can take their tour again past the many market stalls, shows and attractions. “We traditionally have a program that is interesting for both young and adult visitors, including livestock inspections, old tractors, regional product stalls, donkey rides and a small livestock show.”

According to Van Putte, the fact that the tradition is still alive after all these years is evident from the large number of visitors who find their way to Sint Jansteen every year. “We don’t change the formula of the annual fair much, because it is known and loved. But every now and then we make some adjustments and fortunately they are well received.”

The program includes a large horse and pony inspection with Kids Class and a prize for the best groomed horse. “But also our cattle exhibition and a small livestock inspection. There is a regional produce market in the church and a large lottery. In short: plenty to do, see and experience for young and old.”

Official opening by chairman Nico van Putte and mayor of Hulst Ilona Jense – van Haarst (10.30 am) Horse and pony inspection, (Registration from 9.30 am in Café Ambiance, categories are divided by the jury) This year again a special Kids Class, a special class for children under 13 years old, small livestock show at the Martje van Wardje (10.30 am and 1.00 pm), small livestock inspection for all pets (1.00 pm – 3.00 pm), Drawing lottery by notary C. van Goethem (3.30 pm in Café Lazarus) .
