They looked ragged, the dozens of poetry boards in Aardenburg. Lovingly installed twenty years ago by the then Cultural Aardenburg Foundation, they were in dire need of renewal. On Friday April 5, the result, the new poetry route ‘Poets in Aardenburg’, will be festively opened in Museum Cultuurforum. The initiative for the renovation came from the City Council. ‘We saw how the existing collection continued to deteriorate, which is why we, together with the municipality of Sluis, gave the stock a major facelift.’

To keep the new collection manageable, it was decided to close down two old routes and create one new route from them: ‘Poets in Aardenburg’. Former city poet Rogier de Jong adds: ‘About thirty poems by mostly well-known poets who have a connection with Aardenburg. A few names: Tsead Bruinja, Lieke Marsman, Menno Wigman and Anneke Brassinga.’

The new route of approximately 2.5 km takes you over the Noordwal and through the old city center, thus combining the best of both worlds. The poems are provided with QR codes with which one can also listen to the poetry.

On Friday, April 5, the new poetry route ‘Poets in Aardenburg’ will be festively opened at 2:30 PM in Museum Cultuurforum, Sint-Bavostraat 3, Aardenburg. After a short introduction, there will be a walk along a small part of the new route with some readings by poets. Interested parties are welcome.
