Public Prosecution Service demands six months in prison for assaulting conductor at Schagen | Domestic

--

The Public Prosecution Service has demanded a prison sentence of six months, three of which are conditional, against two men aged 21 and 23. The men assaulted a conductor on a train near Schagen on September 13 last year.

The men attacked the conductor when he was checking tickets. The conductor confronted the men for avoiding him. The conductor was then punched, kicked, bitten and stabbed with a screwdriver by both men.

Several train passengers came to the conductor’s aid. They were also attacked by the men.

The public prosecutor referred in the court in Alkmaar on Tuesday to the increasing violence against public transport employees. “How much longer do we have to tolerate this as a society?” the officer said.

She also referred to last Saturday evening’s action. Then all buses, trains, trams and metros stopped for three minutes in protest against aggression against public transport staff. A week earlier, an NS conductor and driver were assaulted on a train.

Abused conductor spent 202 days at home after assault

The abused conductor was present in court on Tuesday, together with a group of colleagues. After the assault, he was at home for 202 days.

In addition to the physical injuries caused by nerve damage in his hand, he had serious psychological complaints. The conductor has been back to work since April 1, but he said he has not yet fully recovered.

The victim also demands 2,500 euros in damages. The judge will make his ruling on May 7.
