A bizarre incident in De Pijp last February. At the intersection of Hemonystraat and Tweede Jan van der Heijdenstraat, a cat was beaten to death by a man walking past. The animal, Miesje, is grabbed by the legs and beaten and kicked to death in the street. The police show images from just before the incident in the hope of finding the perpetrator.
On Saturday, February 10, just after 10:30 p.m., the man arrives at the intersection of Hemonystraat and Tweede Jan van der Heijdenstraat. At that intersection, according to the police, the ‘unsuspecting and much-loved cat’ is sitting on an electricity shed.
The man walks past, looks at Miesje, and grabs the animal by the hind legs and slams it into the ground with full force. The police show images of the man, but do not show everything because the images are “really very unpleasant and very shocking to see”.
When Miesje is struggling on the ground, she is also kicked hard. “The poor animal flies another meter through the air and lands on a planter.” A little later the owner finds her cat dead there.
“Every animal owner’s nightmare. Losing your pet due to brutal abuse resulting in death,” says the police spokesperson. The images of the suspect are not very clear, but the police hope that someone recognizes him and saw something that evening. The police say they are specifically looking for a possible witness who spoke to the suspect during the incident.
