The evening rush hour is busier than normal on Thursday. This is due to the start of the May holidays and the rain that is passing over the country, says a spokesperson for the ANWB.
The crowds are especially noticeable in the Randstad. Traffic is backed up on many roads around the major cities. Around 5:45 p.m. there is more than 700 kilometers of traffic jams in the country.
Earlier this week, the ANWB said it expected a busy evening rush hour on Thursday and Friday, because the May holidays are starting for many people.
It is striking that on roads to the Veluwe and Limburg, popular domestic holiday destinations, the delays are not too bad. “We do see some traffic jams there, but they are small chunks of about ten minutes delay. After that it will run again,” says the spokesperson.
