Phase 3 of Operation Ring South is about to begin. This means other closures and diversions.

Just like in recent weeks, it was very busy on Laan Corpus den Hoorn. It was also busier last weekend on part of Ring West and on the Hoendiep, due to the closure of Ring West between Peizerweg and Vrijheidsplein. Delays also occurred last week on Laan Corpus den Hoorn, Vierverlatenweg, Hoendiep and Stationsweg. In addition, it was busy on the Meerweg and the Groningerweg on Tuesday afternoon.

Conversion during King’s Night

During King’s Night, the night of April 26 to April 27, the traffic situation is changed and Julianaplein is completely closed. In addition, several roads are closed, including the A7 from Hoogkerk to Groningen, the A28 from Groningen-Zuid to Julianaplein and a large part of Ring Zuid. The work consists of installing fences, installing barriers and adjusting lines. You can take a detour via the northern and western ring roads.

Phase 3

Phase 3 of Operation Ring South will start from Saturday morning, April 27. The new connection from Drachten to Assen will open and work will then begin on the connecting arc from Assen to Drachten. This means that the situation on the road in phase 3 is very different than in phase 2.

Phase 3 lasts from April 27 to May 5. Until Friday evening, May 3, 10:00 PM, only the directions from Drachten to Assen and Assen to Hoogezand are open to traffic. This last direction of travel from Assen to Hoogezand is also closed on the weekend of May 4 and 5.

The temporarily constructed road, from Helperzoom to Hereweg, over the Kempkensberg at the sunken location will open on April 27.

In the last phase, the connecting arch at Julianaplein for traffic from Drachten to Assen was asphalted. Paverbarriers (low walls) have also been built along the road and a portal has been placed. This arch opens on Saturdays.

At Freedom Square, the connecting arch of the western ring road towards Julianaplein has been provided with a layer of asphalt. This arch will also be open to traffic from Saturday April 27. In addition, the road between Freedom Square and the Juliana Bridge has been permanently decorated, including the lime trees along the road.
