Chinese car brand Seres is making a comeback in the Netherlands

--

We’re still hoping for a glorious comeback from the Landwind CV9, because we’re starting to run out of Multipla jokes. Unfortunately, that company has been bankrupt for two years. Landwind was really one of the first Chinese car brands in the Netherlands about 15 years ago, but Seres is also worth an honorable mention when it arrived shortly after MG. The brand made a false start in 2021, but with a new importer they will try again.

In its own country, Seres says it is in the top five of the more expensive brands such as Audi and Nio. And yes, ‘in the top five’ is probably a nice word for fifth place. The special thing is that the smallest model, the Seres 3, is anything but premium. In fact, it is the most meaningless car we have seen in a long time. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily bad, but it has no character of its own at all. This is offset by a friendly price of 33,990 euros.

That Seres 3 was also the car with which the brand invaded the country in 2021. The car has been upgraded slightly and can now charge in 3 phase. In addition, it has 163 hp and goes from 0 to 100 in 8.9 seconds. It should go 331 km on one charge. A short drive confirms the suspicions evoked by its appearance: it does what it’s supposed to do, but it’s not all that exciting. The interior also feels a bit cheap.

The Seres 5 and 7 are a lot higher quality

With attempt two the larger 5 and 7 came across. The Seres 5 is a fully electric SUV that you can also order with a range extender. You should be able to drive this with 300 hp and a range of 500 kilometers for about 50,000 euros. Then there is a version with 586 hp and a 0-100 time of 3.7 seconds. The price is not yet known.

You can recognize the version with the range extender by the grille. Thanks to a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a 40 kWh battery, it has a range of 1,000 kilometers. On the inside, the Seres 5 looks much more high-quality than the Seres 3. That makes the proposition a bit crazy: as if Audi would also offer a Suzuki Alto counterpart. It is not yet known what the price for this car will be, but it can never cost much more.

Because for around 55,000 euros you can get the Seres 7. This is the brand’s flagship and it gets the same range extender. You can get this SUV with seven seats and it looks quite decent inside. It is much cheaper than, for example, a Nio EL7, which already costs 75,000 euros in the Netherlands. We are curious whether Seres’ comeback is more successful than the first attempt by a group of Suzuki dealers.
