What is also part of King’s Day is sitting on a rug with your old things. And that is exactly what Duncan did today in Kamperland. Like a little king on his throne, he told us what he sold: books, cuddly toys and also a drift kart. “Last year I sold $70 worth of stuff,” he said. He wanted to break that record this year. “I hope I sell for more than 140 euros.” And before he had even said this sentence, the first customers were already standing by his bright orange tarpaulin. “I see something nice; those cuddly toys.”

Joep sold his cow in Kloetinge. “It costs 50 cents and if you want it, you can buy it,” the young salesman said clearly. However, the toy cow turned out not to be a top favorite, because no one had come along yet who wanted to take it over. Joep had already lost other things. “My friends bought a lot,” he said. And according to the small entrepreneur-to-be, that resulted in a nice pocket money.

The morning in Kamperland ended with a reptile show. Children and adults got to see a number of special reptiles up close: from lizards to cockroaches and gigantic snails. “I like to watch it, but from a distance,” a lady in the audience whispers to her partner.

Despite the wide range of activities and festivities, King’s Day was not for everyone. “I hope to stay for another five minutes,” Reza said. “I think I’m one of the few kids who doesn’t like this.”
