By the end of this month, ships should be able to sail through the shipping channel near the collapsed bridge in Baltimore again. At the end of March, six people were killed in that city in the US state of Maryland when a container ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

That ship has been in the way ever since. US Secretary of Transport Buttigieg tells the BBC that he expects the ship to be removed “by the end of May” and shipping traffic will be able to pass by again.

The intention was for the shipping route to open again today, but due to poor weather conditions and the complex operation, that deadline was not met.

Six dead

Six people were killed in the accident. These were all construction workers who were working at that time. Last Wednesday the last missing body was found in the water.

It is still not clear how exactly things could go so wrong. The FBI is investigating whether anyone should face criminal charges.
