Put your rubbish out on the street twice a week and have it collected by the municipality. For many residents in the city center, this is how their waste is collected. But if it is up to the district, this will come to an end for residents and some entrepreneurs on the Nieuwendijk. They are no longer allowed to place them in front of the door and must take their waste to an underground container further away.

Currently, the garbage of residents and entrepreneurs who do not have agreements with the municipality for waste collection is collected twice a week. That is on Tuesday and Friday evening. But if it is up to the board of the Centrum district, this will change at the beginning of May.

According to the district, due to the current form of garbage collection, there is regular litter in the shopping street, which would attract rats. The board wants the Nieuwendijk to become cleaner and is therefore abolishing collection. Residents must then throw away their garbage in one of the underground containers on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal or Prins Hendrikkade. There are twelve residual waste containers on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.

Residents can still give their opinion about the district’s plan. After May 8, the district will review those opinions and then make the final decision.
