Getir, considered one of the pioneers in flash grocery delivery, today (April 29, 2024) announced it is leaving the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the US. With Getir’s departure, its Gorillas brand will also disappear from Europe. This Berlin-based grocery delivery company was acquired in December 2022. FreshDirect, acquired by Getir in December 2023, and now a subsidiary of Getir in the United States, will continue its activities as usual.
Focus on Turkey
The markets from which Getir is now departing are together responsible for 7% of global turnover. With this decision, Getir chooses to focus its attention on its home market in Turkey, where it is best positioned to further grow its delivery service.
In parallel with this decision, Getir has completed a new investment round, led by Mubadala and G Squared. The money raised will be used to further invest in the Turkish branch of the company.
