FOOTBALL – Of course it had to happen at some point, although Drenthe’s first champion would have preferred to maintain the undefeated status until the end of the season. But Peize’s impressive series came to an end yesterday.

Elte Hofman’s team lost 3-0 on the artificial grass at Groninger Boys. After seventeen wins and five draws, it was the first league defeat of the season and only the second loss of the entire season, including cup and practice matches. Peize suffered its first defeat of the season in the battle for the northern district cup. SVBO proved too strong in the quarter-finals.

For Peize’s last league defeat before last weekend, we have to go back to May 29 of last year. Then Valthermond was too strong for the blue shirts with 3-1, who are returning to the 2nd division after one season of absence.

Due to the loss of Peize, Bargeres is the only Drenthe club that has not yet lost in competition this season. The Saturday fifth division team won all sixteen matches this season. In two weeks, on May 11, Bargeres can win the title against the only remaining competitor: CEC.
