The money comes from the Groningen National Program. The incentives should lead to an improvement in the quality of the living environment, in an area where residents have to deal with the serious consequences of gas extraction.

The Municipality of Groningen and Landschapsbeheer Groningen have gathered many ideas in village discussions, enriched them with their knowledge of the landscape and developed the ‘Blooming Perspective’ plan. This plan runs from 2024 to 2030. The Groningen National Program (NPG) supports Bloeiend Perspectief and has approved the financial application.

History

The landscape of Ten Boer is large-scale and open. The Damsterdiep and the Oude Stadsweg are important lines. Characteristic are the agricultural land use, trees and shrubs along paths and roads and the network of ditches and verges. We also see green heritage: plantings around cemeteries, around barrows and farmyards.

Due to the construction of roads and increased agriculture, certain places in the landscape have changed or even disappeared. Residents are less satisfied with the living environment and are concerned about the decline in biodiversity. Reason for the municipality of Groningen to work together.

Performance

All kinds of projects will start soon. Green meeting places and sailing and canoe routes are being constructed and restored. The construction of flowering verges, greening of roads, making the contours of old mounds and moors visible, restoring farmyards and increasing biodiversity in cemeteries will also start. All projects contribute to improving the quality of the living environment in an area where residents have to deal with the serious consequences of gas extraction.

Landschapbeheer Groningen leads the multi-year Blooming Perspective program based on knowledge in the field of cultural history, ecology, landscape design and sustainable management. This is done in close collaboration with residents, three companies in the landscaping industry and the municipality of Groningen. National Program Groningen makes implementation possible.
