In the first month there were a thousand registrations, which meant that it was already urgent to get a starting permit. In recent months, the list of participants has grown further to a maximum of 2,000 participants. The only option to participate in the competition is to take over a starting number from someone else who is injured, for example.
According to Chris Simons of the organization, the full list of participants may have to do with the schedules of runners. “Or it is because the marathon is the most beautiful in the Netherlands, in our opinion.” Simons thinks that more and more runners see this as such.
It remains to be seen whether the number of participants will be increased in the future. Simons: “For next year we will look at the course of the upcoming edition. I am very curious how many people will be at the start. That is the decision we will make with the municipality.”
According to the organization, registration for the other parts of the marathon weekend is also going well. “With the Light Coastal Run, the Trail Run and the Ladies Run, the registrations are not disappointing,” says Chris Simons.
This year the Coastal Marathon weekend is scheduled from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October.
