The court in Leeuwarden has imposed a prison sentence of thirty months, twelve of which are conditional, on a fraudulent parcel deliverer. The 27-year-old woman from Sint Jacobiparochie embezzled thousands of euros in her work as a parcel deliverer for DHL and for a courier service that worked for PostNL.

The woman worked as a parcel deliverer for courier companies and ordered goods – at least 137 times – on behalf of people living on her regular route between January 4 and July 11 last year.

She ordered almost 17,000 euros on credit and made the victims pay for it. She changed the delivery addresses of these people to the collection point of the company she worked for and then took the items herself. She sold most of the products via Facebook and Vinted.

Two weeks ago, the woman heard a demand for three years in prison, of which one year is conditional.

Reduced accountability

The court stated that the woman “on a large and gross scale” damaged the trust that employers have in their employees and also did not care about the victims who were victims of identity fraud. “She worked in a sophisticated and unscrupulous manner.” The court considers the woman to be less accountable due to her autism spectrum disorder and personality disorder.

The woman was still on two probationary periods as a result of similar crimes committed in the past and must therefore serve an additional 817 days in prison in addition to the prison sentence imposed in this case.
