A 22-year-old employee of the Elisabeth residential care center in Breda has been arrested for alleged sexual misconduct. It concerns a hired care worker who allegedly sexually intimidated several residents with dementia. Healthcare provider Surplus informed Omroep Brabant about this when asked.

The inappropriate behavior happened in the Corenschup department. Elderly people with a form of dementia live there. “Several reports have been made within this department of possible sexual misconduct among residents, by a hired care worker,” a Surplus spokesperson said.

“We are extremely shocked by this,” Surplus responds. “Residents and employees must be safe with us and feel safe. Our first attention is therefore focused on the support and care of the residents of Corenschup, their loved ones and our employees.”

The organization cannot say exactly what the employee did. A report has been made to the Healthcare and Youth Inspectorate and a report has been filed with the police.

The police have now arrested a 22-year-old man as a suspect and are conducting further investigations. The police and the care center cannot provide more details at this time.
