One of the speed bumps in Saturnusstraat in Utrecht will soon be made steeper, in the hope of slowing down traffic. This is initially a trial and if residents do not notice a difference after three months, the adjustment will be reversed.

The municipality says that residents of Saturnusstraat regularly complain about cars driving too fast through the residential area. “At their request, we are now going to do a test.” Next week, the threshold at house numbers 11 and 30 will therefore be made steeper to investigate whether this will cause motorists to drive more slowly.

The trial will last three months and end on July 11. After that period, the residents of the street in Sterrenwijk are asked whether they have noticed a difference. “If the speed does indeed decrease, we can adjust one other speed bump in the street.”

If, according to local residents, motorists are still driving fast through the street, or if, for example, the adjustment causes vibrations that can be felt in adjacent homes, the threshold will be lowered again.
