The 38th edition of the Axel Oldtimer Festival (OTA) on Thursday, May 9, Ascension Day, will focus on the 2CV, or the Duck of the French car manufacturer Citroën. Fifteen Ducks or even more will be on display that day at Hofplein, the place to be for vintage car enthusiasts for the second year in a row. Coincidence or not, Rotary Terneuzen’s rubber duck race in the Kleine Kreek fits in nicely with this.

AXEL – “It will be a wonderful edition, partly thanks to the support of dozens of sponsors, Saman & Compiet is once again our main sponsor, and numerous volunteers,” says Marvin de Rijcke, the new chairman of the Oldtimers Festival. He succeeds Wout den Doelder, who was at the helm of the festival for fifteen years.
The Hofplein is full of beautiful vintage cars on Ascension Day. Numerous well-known brands are represented at the static show. The square will also make room for old tractors, trucks, mopeds, scooters, and even bicycles. For organizational reasons, the stall market will not take place this year: as an alternative, special young timers, built from 1975 to 2000, will be shown in the Oranjestraat. The Oldtimer Festival traditionally starts in the morning with a puzzle ride through the green polders. Demonstrations with miniature trucks are given for visitors in Axel. Also nice: cars made of wood. A number of sponsors are setting up an information stand.
By one o’clock in the afternoon all participants are back on the square. A permanent part of the Oldtimer Festival is the Concours d’Elegance with car journalist Rob Strating as presenter. A mystery jury selects the winners. A catering square will be set up at the entrance of the site, operated by ‘t Roesthuys from Axel. Brothers and Sisters provide the music. Furthermore, a Masked Singer (‘Uiltje’) and several mop bands walk around the square.

*The program starts in the morning at 10:00 am with a puzzle ride. There is an atmosphere on and around the site from the morning onwards. The static show starts at 1 p.m.
