It is not possible to enjoy a Brabant ‘summer’ for long, because code yellow has been issued for Thursday. “From five o’clock you have to take into account very heavy showers that can be accompanied by hail and thunder,” says weatherman Johnny Willemsen of Weerplaza.
The temperature can rise to a maximum of 26 degrees until the afternoon. In De Bilt it was warmer than 25.1 degrees this afternoon, which means it is the first ‘national summer day’ of the year. It was even warmer in Brabant. In Eindhoven the temperature rose to 26.0 degrees.
On average, in the current climate, it will be 25 degrees for the first time in De Bilt on May 16. The first official day of summer comes more than two weeks earlier than usual. It will not remain very sunny, the first showers will appear on Thursday afternoon. “They come from the east and move away to the west. But the showers move very slowly,” says Willemsen.
Very much or very little rain
As a result, a lot of precipitation can fall locally and nothing or very little in other places. “This could cause severe thunderstorms and flooding locally,” the weatherman warns.
These showers will move westwards during the evening. Weatherman Willemsen: “It continues to rain occasionally, but they are becoming less intense.” Friday starts cloudy and wet, during the afternoon it becomes drier and sometimes the sun breaks through. At 14 or 15 degrees it is a lot cooler than the past few days.
