A total of five people were arrested around Remembrance Day on Dam Square. The police announced this this morning. They are now all free again.

Four of the five arrests took place during the ceremony on Dam Square. The police did not have to intervene during the two minutes of silence.

Last night it became clear that the police had arrested a 53-year-old Amstelveen resident. Just before the two minutes started, the man took out a banner with which he wanted to draw attention to the political situation in Uganda.

Police officers managed to lead the man away from Remembrance Day and then arrest him. According to the police, the action did not disturb the silence.

This morning, the police announced that two more people of Ugandan nationality were arrested shortly afterwards. According to police, both belonged to the man who wanted to display the banner. The three were released just before midnight.

TikTok stream

Shortly after the moment of silence, a 24-year-old man from Nijmegen was arrested. The man is said to have made ‘statements on a TikTok livestream that gave rise to the suspicion that he might cause a disruption,’ the police report. This man is also no longer in custody.

Earlier on Saturday, a 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly posting inflammatory messages on social media. According to De Telegraaf and Het Parool, it concerns Rachid El Ghazaoui, better known as rapper Appa. The man was released just before midnight.
