Marijn Maas of the cycling club JEGG-DJR Academy took an impressive fourth place in the cobblestone classification in the Zeeland classic H4A, after three stages spread over two days in a competitive field with young professionals in the U23 Road Series.
Marijn’s strong performance on the second day was decisive: he finished 13th in the 13.7 km time trial in Sas van Gent and sprinted to 8th place in the stage from Sas van Gent to Philippine, which featured 18 cobblestones and heavy wind. These results followed his 25th place in the opening stage in Terneuzen. Due to his impressive riding, Marijn not only finished fourth in the cobblestones classification, but also achieved eighth place in the general classification.
Hectic
It was clear in advance that the competition for the young talents of JEGG-DJR Academy would be hectic. Marijn could count on his teammates, including Australian James Forbes, who made his debut, as well as Sven Pijnenburg, Thomas Baart, Niels Brinkman and Tjalle de Bruin. In the first stage, Marijn finished 25th, followed by James Forbes in 29th. Sven finished 52nd, Thomas 74th and Tjalle crossed the finish line in 115th.
