‘Model scout’ (25) suspected of fornication with at least nine girls aged six to twelve | Domestic

The provisional summons lists nine children who have filed a report, but the Public Prosecution Service expects this number to at least double. The investigation is still in progress. The man was arrested on February 6 and confessed. Since then, the police have been trying to identify as many victims as possible and contact their parents.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, at least three thousand child pornography files were found at the suspect’s home. The man approached the girls via social media such as Snapchat and TikTok and posed as a girl who worked at a modeling agency that was looking for new models. The girls submitted photos for this, first innocent images and then increasingly more explicit.

The man is formally suspected of digital indecency with underage girls and possession of child pornography. He is also prosecuted for distributing child pornography, because he also used the obtained material to exchange on the internet. For this he received child pornographic material in return. The first introductory hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 14, in the court in The Hague.

What is striking about the case is the young age of the victims. Last week, a 37-year-old man from Noordwijk was charged with online abuse of eighteen underage girls aged twelve and older. The court in Breda will rule on Wednesday in the largest sextortion case with thirty victims who filed a complaint. The youngest victim there was also twelve years old.

“Sexual experiences via the internet are a new reality and increasingly normal for young people. That is why it is all the more important to talk to children about boundaries and the dangers of abuse via social media,” the Public Prosecution Service advises in a press release.

Victims or parents may recognize the suspect’s methods. The Public Prosecution Service advises them to contact the vice police in their own region. De Kindertelefoon, the GGD, HelpWanted and Fier are organizations that offer help and advice to children who have had unpleasant experiences on social media.

Parents who are confronted with an indecency case involving their child would do well to primarily support the child. This is what psychologist Marielle Balledux of the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJI) says. According to her, the first step, no matter how difficult it is, is to get your emotions under control.

“With these types of horrible events, your first reaction is that you as a parent are extremely shocked. And you are angry, emotions can be overwhelming. Before you even want to talk to your child about it, it is good to be aware of those emotions and try to get them under control.”

As a parent, talking about it with others is very important in such a situation, says Balledux. This could, for example, be a partner or someone from your circle of friends. An aid organization is also an option, especially if it is too much for people in the area. There are agencies such as the Oudertelefoon or Help Wanted. “If the child in question sees how emotional the parent is, there is a good chance that the child will not tell everything,” says Balledux.
