Assen – A good and healthy life for young and old, equal opportunities for everyone and encouraging residents’ initiatives to strengthen villages and neighborhoods in our province. These are some of the themes that the province of Drenthe wants to work on together with residents, municipalities and social organizations to contribute to broad prosperity for all residents in the province.

The Provincial Executive presented the Social Agenda 2024-2029: Drenthe for each other! Although many people from Drenthe are satisfied with their lives, this is not the case for everyone. More and more residents are struggling to make ends meet, have concerns about their future and are losing confidence in the government. There are therefore serious challenges regarding broad prosperity in Drenthe. As a province, we are involved with our residents and feel the responsibility to contribute to these social tasks and the broad prosperity in our province, together with our partners, where we can add value in a role that fits. This builds on the provincial efforts of recent years, albeit tightened and responding to new developments.

Themes Social Agenda

In recent months, we have been working together with all Drenthe residents, municipalities, welfare and healthcare organizations, educational and social organizations on what the Social Agenda for Drenthe should be. Themes have been jointly identified for which additional efforts will be made over the next four years: (1) Neighborhood: maintaining and strengthening, (2) Social security: basis for equal opportunities, (3) Health: prevention and accessible care for everyone, and (4) Inclusion and diversity: no one is the same, but everyone is equal. The relationship with other policy areas and programs such as housing, energy, sport and exercise, culture and rural areas was also examined.

Resident initiatives

The Social Agenda also contains a work plan that is developed every year together with partners. In the coming year, the focus will be on, among other things, stimulating residents’ initiatives through subsidies, supporting volunteers, supporting the Alliance of Power for reducing poverty and the cross-domain approach in healthcare. The role of the Drenthe Rainbow Ambassador also remains important in the pursuit of equality.

Deputy Yvonne Turenhout: “I am extremely proud of the Social Agenda for Drenthe. Together with residents, municipalities, education and welfare organizations, we have determined the approach for a lively and social Drenthe. The major challenges of our time require unequal investments for equal opportunities for every Drent. That’s what we’re going to do.”

The Provincial Executive submits the Social Agenda to the Provincial Council for adoption. Treatment and determination is intended for July this year.
