The Municipality of Groningen is working on a book about the Grote Markt, now that the redesign of the new Grote Markt is almost complete.

The book contains a lot of history, information and what the Grote Markt was like over the years with many photos, drawings and other visual material. The current approach also receives attention.

The book also includes contributions from Stadjers and other Groningen residents. “After all, it is also their Grote Markt,” according to the municipality.

Call

That’s why an appeal to the residents: Have you ever experienced something memorable on the Grote Markt? Have you asked your loved one for her hand in marriage? Were you there cheering on the newly promoted FC? Did you float anxiously high on a fairground attraction? Did you ever make your best purchase at the flea market? Or do you have another interesting, exciting or strong story about the Grote Markt, perhaps handed down by your (grand)parents?

Interested residents are asked to write down their Grote Markt moment, in a maximum of 100 words with a nice, suitable photo or other illustration. The editors of the book then make a selection from the submissions. Who knows, maybe ‘your’ contribution will be included in the book that will be published in December. Entries can be sent to: [email protected]. This is possible until June 15.
