The hubs are important in the new system. These are places where you can board at least one type of transport or transfer to another means of transport. How many types of transport there are and which facilities exactly differ per hub.

Within the municipality of Middelburg there will always be a hub within walking distance (maximum 500 meters), and outside the built-up area you will never have to travel further than 2.5 kilometers to a hub.

Would you like to give your opinion about the hubs (boarding locations) for flexible transport in the municipality of Middelburg? Then complete the survey before June 9.

Types of hubs

There are roughly three types of hubs: shared mobility hubs, boarding points for flexible transport and larger mobility hubs.

Some hubs combine multiple functions. For example, a hub can consist of a bus stop for fixed transport and a boarding point for flexible transport such as shared bicycles or a Flex. A Flex is a small bus that runs on demand. Travelers indicate in advance at which hub they will board and where they are going. The Flex runs the fastest route between hubs and has no fixed timetable.

At some hubs only partial transport is available, these are shared mobility hubs. These hubs can already be found at various schools and at the stations in Vlissingen, Middelburg and Goes. Here, students can use shared bicycles to cover the last kilometers to school.

There are also hubs where only a Flex stops. These are boarding points for a small bus that runs on demand; the Flex. The Flex does not drive a fixed daily route, but travels from hub to hub based on travel demand.

Larger mobility hubs are large hubs in central locations where fixed and flexible transport come together. Travelers can therefore transfer at these hubs. Depending on the location and size of the hub, they can store their own bicycle here, park their car, carpool, take shared transport or transfer from the bus to the train. Because travelers sometimes have to wait here, there are various facilities available, such as covered areas for waiting.

Schedule

Zeeland will start using other forms of public transport in early 2025. One of the conditions for the start of the introduction is clarity about the boarding points (the so-called hubs) and a technically functioning app that should make reservations possible. Once this has been arranged behind the scenes, the Flex is expected to be available from the first quarter of 2025.

More information

From 2025, public transport throughout Zeeland will be organized based on demand. Together with the province of Zeeland, the municipality of Middelburg, like all other Zeeland municipalities, is further developing public transport.
