Music festival Le Guess Who? is launching a test where people with a low income can determine the price of their festival ticket themselves. The organization wants to keep the music festival accessible to music lovers with all kinds of budgets. This is primarily a pilot.

From November 7 to 10, music festival Le Guess Who? again in Utrecht. Ticket sales are just a little different than usual this year. For example, the organization of the event has arranged that people with a low income can also walk around the festival.

Voluntary contribution

Interested parties can visit the Le Guess Who? website. namely, fill in a special form to claim the tickets. This must include the first and last name, but also the amount that the person would like to pay. There are options for ten, twenty, thirty and forty euros. Depending on how much money someone has, a payment can be made. Le Guess Who does say that a higher donation does not mean that there is a greater chance of receiving a ticket.

With this initiative, the organization Le Guess Who? make it more accessible, says Barry Spooren, head of communications: “This initiative stems from the fact that we hear that the price is one of the biggest barriers for people to visit the festival. We want to give people who would like to visit the festival, but do not have the financial resources, the opportunity to do so.”

Based on trust

There is not an endless stream of tickets. The festival indicates that when tickets are sold out, a random selection will be made from all registrations. Anyone can fill out the form on the website. Le Guess Who indicates that the initiative is ‘based on trust and openness’. The ‘low income tickets’ are all day tickets and cannot be resold to other people.
