Traces on the body of Antoinette Bont (24) from Groningen, who was tortured and murdered in 1995, do not belong to the man who was convicted for the controversial coffee shop murder of Harry Roo in the same year.

This is evident from new DNA research, in which Roo’s murderer Henk E. (73) voluntarily cooperated. This makes a link between the two murders very unlikely.

Officially, E. from Groningen was never a suspect in the murder of Antoinette Bont. But since the gruesome death of the drug-addicted prostitute, whose body parts were found in Groningen and Drenthe, the police always took into account that he was responsible for her death.

Body carved with saber or sword

The body parts of both the coffee shop owner and the prostitute Bont were found in rivers and canals in the same period in 1995, wrapped in plastic and rope. The bodies had also been treated in the same way with a saber or sword.

The cold case team of the Northern Netherlands police conducted forensic research into the similarities for years. In March, Henk E. received a letter from the Public Prosecution Service of the Northern Netherlands with a request to provide DNA for comparison with cell material found on Bont’s body parts. He agreed to that request.

No match with E.

A week ago he received another letter from the Public Prosecution Service: the result was negative. No surprise for E.: “I have always said that I had nothing to do with Bont’s murder. I have been pointed in my direction for a long time. I was convicted of shooting Roo and served that sentence. I hope that I will finally be left alone and that the murder of that girl will be solved,” says E.

The Groningen resident says he finds it incomprehensible that the police have not carried out a large-scale DNA investigation into the Bont case. “Everything was possible with the murders of Nicky Verstappen and Marianne Vaatstra, but not with this woman.”

Drug trafficker Roo

Roo was a major drug trafficker in the North and Henk E. did odd jobs for him. The two got into an argument about money and E. shot Roo dead. According to him, it was self-defense because Roo had a gun.

The murder became best known because of the tough and later banned Zaanse interrogation method, to which E. was subjected by the police.

The cold case team of the Northern Netherlands police is conducting renewed investigation into the murder of Antoinette Bont. The Public Prosecution Service has announced that the negative DNA result certainly does not mean that the investigation has now been completed.
