NORTH NETHERLANDS – In the Netherlands, more than 700,000 people have a thyroid disorder, yet there is still a lot of unknowns about the thyroid gland: among the general public and among people with a thyroid disorder. To change that, the theme of Thyroid Week (21 to 25 May) this year is: it must be your thyroid. There are various information stands in the Northern Netherlands and there is an opportunity to talk to experienced volunteers.

  • Tuesday, May 21, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.: MC Leeuwarden information stand
  • Wednesday, May 22, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.: information stand at Bethesda Hospital Hoogeveen
  • Thursday, May 23, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: information stand at Martini Hospital Groningen

A complete overview of all (online) meetings can be found on the website weekvandeschildklier.nl.

Thyroid Week is intended to draw more attention to thyroid disorders and their impact on health. Thyroid Organization Netherlands (SON) holds meetings throughout the country and there are information stands to make the public aware of the thyroid and to provide insight and tools to people with complaints. Thyroid Week is also intended to let people with a thyroid condition know that they are not alone.

Test your knowledge
Especially for Thyroid Week, SON has developed a quiz with which people can test their knowledge about the thyroid gland. The quiz can be completed via the website thyroid.nl, in information stands throughout the country and via social media.
