Danny Ghosen researched for his documentary Danny ter Plekke drug violence in Ecuador. Ghosen told us last night Jeroen and Sophie about the misery associated with a ‘sniff’ of cocaine in the Netherlands. But table guest Emma Wortelboer and Ghosen completely disagreed about the handling and responsibility of drug use in the Netherlands.

Danny Ghosen traveled to Ecuador, a country that is experiencing a lot of unrest due to drug gangs. A lot of people die there as a result of drug violence. The country is suffering from corruption and the influence of drug gangs. The program maker also previously spoke to young coke extractors who worked in the port of Rotterdam.

“The Netherlands and Europe are the most important market for drugs,” the documentary says. And the wife of a murdered Ecuadorian presidential candidate said that the Dutch user sniffed the blood of the dead in Ecuador.

The program maker explains that because we, in countries like the Netherlands, love cocaine so much, Ecuador is struggling with drug violence as a result. “Not only in Ecuador, but throughout South America where there is unrest,” Ghosen adds.

Emma Wortelboer does not blame the user

Emma Wortelboer, is also at the table, and prepared Squirt and Swallow enough television about drugs. “I find it quite easy to put it on the user. Because the user does not ask for the bloodshed in such a country,” she responds.

Ghosen: “But you are asking for the cocaine, right? And the cartel says, ‘Do you want cocaine? Then we will bring it to you. And even if we have to commit thousands of murders for that. You get it.’”

Legalize drugs

According to Wortelboer there is no other option. Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema also advocates the regulation of hard drugs. Wortelboer, like presenter Jeroen Pauw, is in favor of legalizing all drugs. But Ghosen emphasizes that the Netherlands is still unable to get cannabis cultivation under control.

Ghosen: “How do you imagine that? You have a shop and then you say: ‘Just do a little coke, a little crystal meth’.” Wortelboer nods in agreement. Ghosen is concerned about the youth. “You’re not going to give children crystal meth,” Wortelboer responds in surprise. After which Ghosen emphasizes that children can also obtain alcohol. But according to Wortelboer, a few ‘bright minds’ should think about this carefully. “Nothing is happening now. It’s all about pointing and pointing and we’re all doing it shit,” concludes Wortelboer.
