ALTENA – The village is preparing for a weekend party, traditional fair, Spring Fair and classic car day. The start of the traditional fair with swing carousel and children’s carousel is on Friday, May 24 from 4 p.m. on the festival site next to the village hall in Altena. In the evening there is the infamous orientation ride for cars, plotted and devised by Pieter Hogema. It is a route of approximately 25-40 km, around Altena and in the head of Drenthe. You have to drive a route using directions and along the way you will encounter all kinds of directions, questions and manned posts that give you points or penalty points. It is doable for the observant reader and driver, but there are many catches hidden in the grass. The awards ceremony will take place in the evening after the ride, in the party tent, and there will be plenty of time for pleasant chat while enjoying a drink.
On Saturday, from 1:30 PM, there will be a surprise activity for primary school children, a bouncy castle and a rodeo bull from 5:00 PM. During the evening, a competition will also be held for youth and adults: who can stay on the rodeo bull the longest. Live music from 9 p.m. in the party tent by party band Sunshine.
Sunday, May 26 is all about the Spring Fair and the classic car show with a tour of old tractors. The Spring Fair promises to be another pleasant market with many exhibitors around the pond in Altena. There will be demonstrations of model boats in the pond and the Free Truckers will make an appearance with their model trucks in the village hall. The old tractors will enter Altena from approximately 10 a.m. to their staging areas. The traditional tour (+-1.5 hours) takes place from approximately 11.30 am. In and around the party tent there is live music all day long, starting with chamber music from trio Les Fantaseurs, accordion music, rockabilly from Shifting Gears and in the afternoon singing along with the second most famous act from Altena, Hindrik and Ria from Unique. The weekend is made possible by the support of MCP (Music Culture Peize) and the Municipality of Noordenveld, many sponsors and volunteers from the village hall and Vereniging Volksvermaken Altena.
