Cleaning up the remains of the devastating fire at logistics company Vice Versa in Oss attracted a lot of attention on Friday. Many people cycle past the site on their day off to see the devastation with their own eyes. And that creates surprised looks. “Didn’t know that so much was being stored.”

Demolition and removal of the remains of the fire have been in full swing since Wednesday. In the fire, which started last Friday in a cold room, ten freezer rooms and a few cold rooms went up in flames. The entire building has been destroyed. During the clean-up work, the meat products that were stored in the distribution center are first removed.

Odor nuisance
In addition, pest control is used to prevent pests from approaching the building. The meat and other food cause odor nuisance, although bystanders find the smell not too bad.

“Every now and then a gust passes by, but we are village people so we are used to something,” laughs Will from Ooijen. She often cycles past the company with her husband Hank. “But I didn’t expect it to be such a havoc,” says Hank.

Saved a lot
Will is particularly surprised by the size of the company. “Vegetables, bread and meat. I didn’t know that so much was stored.” She sympathizes very much with the owners of the property. “It’s terrible. I hope I never experience such a fire myself.”

After a visit to the gym, Ton is also curious about how the building looks a week after the fire. “It’s impressive to see that there was such a big fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The clean-up will take a while if I look at it that way.” He hopes that the meat remains will be cleaned up quickly when temperatures rise in the coming days. For now, the stench isn’t too bad, according to Ton.

Police tapes
Every now and then a plume of smoke rises through the smoldering remains. There was still a fire truck present on Friday, but it no longer had to come into action.

Police tape is still hanging in the street next to the company. The residents of the houses cannot return home for the time being. They are cared for by friends and family or are accommodated in Hotel Nuland.
