Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson are working on a new Lord of the Rings film about Gollum | Movies & Series

Peter Jackson, the 62-year-old director of the original The Lord of the Ringstrilogy, is producing the film with the working title The Hunt for Gollum. Film studio Warner Bros. has not yet announced many details, but stated in a press release that it expects the release in 2026.

Serkis, now sixty, first appeared as Gollum more than twenty years ago in the trilogy, which is based on the book series of the same name by JRR Tolkien. The character Gollum was born as the hobbit Sméagol. Because he falls under the spell of a powerful ring, he gradually transforms into the creature Gollum.

Serkis is in The Lord of the Rings and later in the trilogy The Hobbit never to be seen as a human being. The actor uses performance capture. This means that he is put on a special suit on set, after which his movements are loaded into a computer system. This technique ensures lifelike animations.
