The Killers have created ‘Mr. Brightside’ never reached number one on the UK Official Single Charts. This makes the American band’s hit now the most successful single without a number 1 ranking. According to the Official Charts Company, the company behind the British charts, The Killers have dethroned Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’.

Mr. Brightside was released as a CD single in 2003. Only after The Killers broke through with the hit Somebody Told Me did the song enter the singles list a year later. The song did not get further than tenth place there. In the years that followed, Mr. Brightside can be found in the list every now and then. The song has now been around for 408 weeks. To date, the song has been physically sold more than 1 million times and streamed more than 530 million times.

As of 2020, the song is on the list with some minor interruptions. This week the single is at 71. According to the UK Charts Company, ‘Mr. Brightside’ is still streamed 1.8 million times every week in Great Britain.

In the list of most successful singles that never reached number one, John Legend is third with ‘All Of Me’. Hozier occupies fourth place with ‘Take Me to Church’ and Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues complete the top 5 with their Christmas hit ‘Fairytale of New York’.
