Oudesluis
Two people died in a serious accident between two cars in Oudesluis on Monday. Two people were also injured, one seriously. The accident happened in the morning, around 6.40 am. In the middle of the afternoon, the police announced that two victims had died in hospital.
The accident happened at the intersection of the Keinsmerweg with the Grote Sloot between Oudesluis and Schagen. The collision left a vehicle with four occupants in the water.
Firefighters and ambulances arrived on the scene. Firefighters went into the water to search for victims. A passing truck with a crane lifted the vehicle above the water and salvaged it. The other car involved in the accident got stuck on the bridge railing. Its driver was not injured.
Relief
The police are looking for an important witness to the accident: the driver of a gray station wagon. He drew the attention of the occupants in Schagen to switching on the vehicle’s lighting, the police said.
