In several places in the country, the fire brigade had to come into action due to large fires. This happened in Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Utrecht.
In Utrecht yesterday a fire broke out at the back of an Italian restaurant on the Schoutenstraat, near the Neude, at the end of the afternoon. The dining room was evacuated. According to the fire service, the fire started in a paper container and then spread to the back and an extension of the building.
The fire service had great difficulty reaching the building. A large part of the roof of the extension therefore had to be demolished. No one was injured. At around 10 p.m., the fire signal was given.
In Eindhoven, a fire broke out in an apartment building on the Amandelpark. The residents of the building were evacuated and received shelter in a community center. Two people were checked by paramedics.
Most residents can now return home, but some homes have been damaged.
A large fire also raged in an apartment complex on the Waalkade in Nijmegen. It was discovered around 10:20 PM. According to a local news agency, people in the street were very frightened, and the police had great difficulty keeping people at a distance.
Firefighters had the fire under control after more than an hour.
