Long lines and grumpy faces today at Eindhoven Airport. Some miss their flight. Like Schiphol, the airport is struggling with a staff shortage at security, but the queues and waiting times are mainly caused by early arrivals.
“We advise travelers to be present 2.5 to 3 hours in advance. But we now saw that there are people who came 4 or 5 hours earlier,” says a spokeswoman for Eindhoven Airport at Omroep Brabant. “That’s not handy.”
It is not the first time this week that there are long lines outside the airport building in Eindhoven. This was already the case yesterday morning, despite the warning on the website not to come too early. That warning is ignored by many passengers. “We see that people are coming to the airport too early again, just like in recent days. There are people queuing up who do not have to catch their flight until four in the afternoon,” the spokeswoman said this morning.
Out in the rain
The result is sometimes lengthy delays, or planes departing without all passengers on board.
There were also long lines at Schiphol this morning. Robert Heinsbroek, a passenger on his way to Spain, says that he stood in line for 2.5 hours. “The tent they put up in front of the door was closed. So we were outside in the rain. We didn’t get a bottle of water, nothing,” he says. Finally, just in time, he was able to board the plane. The plane took off exactly on schedule.
