The accident is said to have occurred around a quarter to ten in the morning. The bus from FlixBus, a carrier that often covers longer distances, was reportedly driving from the German capital Berlin to Zurich, Switzerland. There would have been a total of 53 passengers and two drivers on the bus.

German media write that dozens of injured people are expected. According to the latest reports, at least twenty injuries have been confirmed. Hospitals in the Leipzig area have been warned to expect casualties.

No other vehicle

The authorities responded with ambulances and air ambulances after the accident. The road is closed. According to German media, no other vehicle was involved in the accident. They managed to get the bus upright again around noon, where passengers could be freed. A spokesperson for FlixBus says that every effort is being made to determine the cause of the fatal accident.

Armin Schuster, interior minister of the state of Saxony, expressed his condolences at the scene of the accident to the relatives of the deceased passengers. He also thanked the rescuers who handled this “difficult situation excellently”, the German wrote Welt.
