Shocked reactions to Baudet’s threatening statements: ‘Intensely sad’ | Politics

Chamber Chairman Martin Bosma sent a letter to Parliament on Wednesday evening asking Baudet to come for an interview on Thursday. He must then explain threatening statements he made against MP Jesse Klaver (GL-PvdA) after a debate.

Klaver thinks it is good that Bosma is acting so quickly. “Threats are unacceptable. In a democracy we resolve disagreements with words,” Klaver told it ANP. “The fact that Mr Baudet in our meeting room, the heart of Dutch democracy, felt it necessary to issue a threat is a low point.”

Baudet’s statements lead to indignant reactions from politicians about X. Dilan Yesilgöz (VVD) considers it an “intensely sad low”. “By treating colleagues in this way, you not only damage the institution of the Chamber, you undermine democracy,” Yesilgöz writes. She thinks it is “good that the Speaker of the House is intervening”.

“This is the reason that Mirjam Bikker and I wanted to ban threats in the House of Representatives last year,” Paternotte writes. “What you shout in the national assembly hall is not without consequences. It incites people to intimidation. And worse.”
