Last Tuesday, RTL News revealed that the plan consists of three parts: extra money will go to housing, education and infrastructure.

The lion’s share of the amount that the government contributes comes from the Growth Fund. An amount of 1.3 billion will be released from this. The rest of the government’s money comes from existing funds for housing construction and mobility.

Warning

In addition to the investments, the outgoing cabinet comes with a warning: by taking these measures it is assumed that AMSL will ‘make further investments in the Netherlands and maintain its location in the Netherlands’.

“If investment plans change, these forecasts and associated efforts will be adjusted,” it said.

Technology education

For example, the government is investing 450 million euros in technical education up to 2030. Four regions (Groningen, Enschede, Delft and Eindhoven) have been tasked with coming up with a plan to recruit more students at secondary vocational education, higher professional education and universities who can work in the chip sector.

In the years that follow, 80 million per year will be spent there.

20,000 homes, fast bus connection

A significant amount goes to infrastructure in the Eindhoven region. This should provide a better train station where more international trains can stop, fast bus connections between the center of Eindhoven and Veldhoven, where ASML is located, and improved roads in the area. The government will contribute more than 700 million euros to this, and the region will contribute another 350 million.

Nearly 20,000 new houses will also be built in the Eindhoven region in the coming years. The region and the national government are jointly earmarking a total of 425 million euros for this purpose.

Project Beethoven

The package, previously renamed ‘Project Beethoven’ in The Hague, should ensure that large companies such as ASML and NXP are retained in the Netherlands in the coming years.

According to the cabinet, the sector in the Brainport Eindhoven region is now ‘reaching its limits’. “The sector is important for our earning capacity and contributes to our security and independence from other countries.”
