The RIVM warns of poor air quality due to the various Easter fires that will be lit this weekend. Particularly on Easter Sunday, the smoke will blow over the east and north of the Netherlands due to the easterly wind.

The Easter fires can release high concentrations of particulate matter into the air. The RIVM advises people who are sensitive to smog to stay indoors due to the poorer air quality. The RIVM also recommends limiting strenuous physical exertion.

The Easter fires are traditionally lit, especially in the north and east of the country. There are also Easter fires across the border in Germany every year.

The smoke from the fires in the north and east of the country will be smellable, especially on Easter Sunday. An easterly wind will blow the smoke from the Easter fires over the land.

On Easter Monday, the fires will probably cause poorer air quality in fewer areas in the Netherlands. The wind will shift and come from a south-westerly direction on Monday.

Fires will also be lit in Germany on Friday and Saturday. Due to the southerly wind, there is little chance that this will be smellable in the Netherlands before Easter Sunday.
