The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 has not yet been unveiled, but the smartwatch seems to have a very useful function. The smart watch could monitor your blood sugar without drawing blood.
The South Korean Pulse reports this, partly based on an announcement from Samsung. It states that Hon Pak, head of Samsung’s digital healthcare department, has held discussions about the position with the supervisory board of Samsung Health. Diabetes and the application of AI in wearables were also discussed during that meeting.
In January, Pak said that Samsung is working on technology that makes so-called non-invasive blood sugar measurement possible. He also said at the time that the company has made “significant investments” to actually make the function possible in wearables.
According to the rumor from South Korea, the function will be added to the Galaxy Watch 7, although the company may choose not to classify the wearable as a medical device. Strict regulations for that type of equipment would be the reason to simply label the Galaxy Watch 7 as an electronic device. Nothing further is known about the specifications of the Galaxy Watch 7.
However, there are rumors about a possible return to the square design for the new smartwatch. In recent years, the Galaxy Watch watches all had round screens.
With a square design, the Samsung smartwatch would look more like the Apple Watch. Apple has also been working on a blood sugar measuring function for years, but that technology is not expected to be ready this year.
Galaxy Ring
The Galaxy Watch 7 may be unveiled at the same time as Samsung’s new smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, during the next Samsung Unpacked event. According to Sammobile, that event is scheduled for July 10 in Paris. The smartwatch should be released later this year. The French capital is said to have been chosen because the Olympic Games will take place there later that month. Samsung is one of the largest sponsors of the sporting event.
