In any case, it confirms many discussions about whether or not you can see more than 50/60 fps. So that is possible, but not for everyone. (Although that may be a simplistic assumption on my part)

I used to have a colleague who always saw all the fluorescent tubes flashing. But only in the corner of his eye. (I also understand that the vision in the corner of your eye reacts faster than what is happening right in front of you.)

And then I immediately wonder whether that is linked, and in any case whether there are more variables in that case.

Flashing fluorescent tubes have always bothered me very quickly (both in full view and in the corner of the eye) even though others say they see nothing. Glad they aren’t around much anymore. I also easily get overstimulated by sight (and audio) and cannot filter anything in terms of audio and visual (which is of course very different but may play a role in my problem with the fluorescent tubes). I do see (and hear) a lot of details and score well on such tests, probably because my brain does not filter and wants to process everything (diagnosed as part of autism) combined with mild OCD (also diagnosed).

But when it comes to FPS, I play just as well at 30fps as at 120. Both are smooth and I see little to no difference. Not even when I hold it side by side. Below 30 it only becomes an issue for me, and even that I can often get used to if I look at it long enough and don’t look higher in between.

Reaction to light flickers and the like does not necessarily have to be linked to being able to see high FPS in a (smooth) video. There’s a good chance I’ll score high on the first one, and low on the second.

But, this is also full of assumptions and with an N=1 experience.
