Stabbed employee (39) of mental health institution Heerlen has died

A 39-year-old employee of a mental health institution in Heerlen who was stabbed last week died yesterday from her injuries.

The police have arrested a suspect. It concerns a 29-year-old woman from Heerlen. She may be a client, but the institution will neither confirm nor deny this, reports L1 News.

The stabbed woman worked for almost 20 years at the Heerlen branch of the Mondriaan Mental Health Care Institution. “This loss affects us all deeply and leaves a great void within our organization,” the institution responded internally. “She was a spontaneous, enthusiastic and driven colleague who worked from her heart. Even though she was small in stature, she was a spirited aunt who you could not ignore. We will miss her terribly.”

Meetings are planned for employees today and tomorrow to commemorate the colleague and find support from each other.

The stabbing incident took place last Monday on the grounds of the mental health institution on John F. Kennedylaan in Heerlen. The employee suffered serious injuries, including to her lung.

The suspect initially ran away, but was quickly arrested by the police. The investigation showed that the suspect and the victim knew each other, the Public Prosecution Service reported. The suspect was said to have been treated by the victim in the past. It is not known why the suspect attacked the woman. Sources reported that she appears to have selected the victim at random, but the Public Prosecution Service could not say anything about that.
