Dest suffered his knee injury during training last weekend. PSV reported that Dest would miss the rest of the season, but there were immediate fears of a longer absence. It is now clear that Dest will probably be sidelined for the rest of this calendar year.

The news about Dest has hit PSV hard. “We are devastated. It is terrible,” said coach Peter Bosz at the press conference before the away match against SC Heerenveen. “Sergiño told the group together with the doctor and it was completely silent. That says it all.”

Bosz does not want to elaborate on the injury of the FC Barcelona mercenary, also because Dest himself will come up with an explanation later. “Sergiño would like to explain himself what happened and what the next step will be. He would like to do that in his own words.”

Dest is on loan from FC Barcelona this season to PSV and as an up-and-coming left back he has emerged as a trendsetter. The defender played 37 official matches, in which he scored twice and prepared a goal seven times.

PSV previously indicated that it would like to keep Dest. It is not known whether the serious knee injury will change that wish. Dest is still under contract with FC Barcelona until mid-2025.

Due to his injury, Dest will not be there when PSV wins the title. PSV is champion if the team wins against SC Heerenveen on Thursday evening and Feyenoord loses points later that evening against Go Ahead Eagles.

Left back Patrick van Aanholt is considered a possible replacement for Dest. Midfielder Mauro Júnior also played as a left back in the past.
