After a period of fairly cold spring weather, a pleasant change in weather is planned this weekend. In terms of timing, it couldn’t be much better, because on Saturday many millions of revelers are of course hoping for lovely outdoor weather. King’s Night less cold than previous years
Activities are already taking place in many places in the country on Friday evening. For example, the famous flea market in Utrecht starts at 6 p.m. A few showers will occur in the south on Friday evening, but in most places it will be dry with a mix of clouds and clear spells. Around 8:00 PM the temperature is between 8 and 12 degrees. After midnight, showers are still possible, especially in the western provinces. Elsewhere, dry periods dominate. A thick coat will come in handy for the late partygoers, because it will be quite chilly. With little wind it will eventually cool down to 2 degrees in the north to 7 degrees in the south. Yet it is considerably less cold than previous years. Last year we even had to deal with extensive night frost during King’s Night.

Chance of showers on King’s Day
Saturday is of course the day this weekend is all about. We can say we are lucky as far as the temperature is concerned. Since April 15, we have been dealing with temperatures that have been lower than usual, but on King’s Day the temperature has risen sharply again. The maximum temperatures ultimately reach around 14 degrees near the sea to locally 18 degrees in the southeast of the country. In Emmen, where the Royal couple are celebrating King’s Day this year, we expect an afternoon temperature of around 17 degrees.
The weather pattern varies. There are dry periods with sometimes sunshine, but from the south the chance of showers increases. During the afternoon there will be scattered showers across the country. Locally heavy showers may occur with a chance of hail, thunder and a lot of rain in a short period of time.
The night leading up to Sunday is mild
It is cloudy and showers are possible in several places. The greatest opportunities for this lie with the coastal provinces. There are also dry periods. In the early evening it is 12 to 14 degrees and later the temperature drops to about 10 degrees. The wind is weak from the southeast.
Lots of wind on Sunday
The day starts with a lot of clouds and locally a light shower. In the afternoon cloud fields and cumulus clouds alternate with sunny periods. The south wind plays a major role, because it is often quite strong over land and sometimes strong near the sea, 5 or 6 Bft. In addition, there is a chance of wind gusts of up to 70 km/hour. The strong southerly wind brings in soft air. In the afternoon it is widely 18 degrees.
Chance of thunder after the weekend?
The wind turns northeast to east. The temperature rises to afternoon values around 20 degrees on Tuesday and more than 20 degrees on Wednesday. There is room for sunny periods, but the chance of rain and thunderstorms increases. During the nights it is 8 to 11 degrees.
